ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in Perth and living in Melbourne, Ian is the son of a Gallipoli and Western Front veteran and has had a career steeped in the finance industry as a merchant banker and a general manager of Barclays Bank. He was a financial advisor and consultant in Australia to many large corporations including BHP, Shamrock Inc (the Disney Family Investment Company) and Woodside Petroleum. Ian is a husband, father and grandfather with a passion for both Australian and family history and is currently teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees whilst writing his second novel. Having left school at fifteen, early in his career he furthered his education and gained his degree in banking, becoming a fellow of The Bankers’ Institute of Australasia.
When working at Barclays Bank, Ian travelled to and worked in many countries in Asia, Europe and North America. He has worked in all the mainland Australian cities and in New Zealand, accumulating a wealth of experience. Following his retirement from banking, Ian was appointed to several boards and acted in an advisory capacity in the business and rural sectors. With diminishing responsibilities his underlying desire to write emerged following a visit to Gallipoli in 2008, further stimulating his interest in both Australian and family history. Ian considers himself lucky to have lived in an era when initiative and determination have been rewarded, and he, together with his family, including three dynamic grandchildren, indeed have had and are having a fortunate and privileged life.
